On my way to see this on Netflix and I got distracted by Schitt's Creek and 5 episodes later, I finally made it to the American Murder: The Family Next Door.
Most notable thing about this movie was I remember watching this live, or close enough. People on YouTube were already putting all the videos, evidence and theories in Videos that weekend in 2018 and it was so interesting to practically follow the case live.
So, I learned and seen 85% of the footage in this documentary more than 2 years ago. But it was fine for a recap (though I remembered everything, down to the polygraph lady) and I thoroughly enjoyed the remaining 15% outcome. Of course, I never heard what happened back then and until today, I had completely forgotten about the case.
Basically, it's a real-life Gone Girl of sorts, but it does NOT take too long for the cops to narrow their suspect list down when they're working the case of missing & pregnant Shanann Watts and her two very young daughters. At first, happy" husband Chris states he went to work and during the day sometime, his wife and daughters were either abducted out of their peaceful neighborhood's home or she left him and took the kids as well. But, is his recollection the correct story of her and their children's whereabouts?
It's not a bad documentary, it's just so str8 to the point, I see it might have been hard to fill all 80 minutes of it. As a matter of fact, I would've like to seen a little but more. But, what they presented was just fine. And it couldn't have been easy to get permission for all the pieces (video/texts/footage) so I respect them.
My biggest gripe and this isn't a criticism so much if I'm wrong, but it felt like the focus was so heavily on wife and husband, Shanann and Chris, that it's hard to feel for what happened to the kids. Not to mention she was pregnant at the time of her disappearance. This documentary almost makes you forget about those 2½ kids.

Final thoughts: Trust no one! Not One Neighbor! Don't be that neighbor videoed for the Local 5 o'clock who says, Oh, he was so sweet, so quiet, I can't even imagine he'd do that! Everyone's a Suspect! And Can Be a Criminal!
And that was my only paranoid moment. Thank you.

Just when I thought I could not get any more enraged about what this Animal did to his Wife and Children, I completely lost it when I saw this clip. How sad and desolate a gravesite this Animal selected. And, Im sorry: But Where The Hell Was Security For this Company when this Animal was Committing These Horrific Crimes? There is some good news though. I heard that The Inmate TV Channel was secretly created years ago. I heard that Inmates from all over the world are eager to meet this Animal to advise what his real sentence will be💀🔥. Good Riddance And May You NEVER Rest In Peace. I was expecting much more than texts messages and body cams. 5 stars is a generous rating.
Shan'ann's brother has the dog. He did an update about a year ago and the dog is doing well <3. Because of other woman he killed his wife and sadly he didn't spare his 2 little princess. An evil man. I was sick to my stomach for a week when I heard about this story. And how he disposed of them. It was 4 murders because I count her unborn baby boy too. She was so happy they were having a boy. had a name and everything prepared 😭. Chris should have stuck to bad tattoos and running up credit card debt. This crime thing didn't pan out.

In the first body cam footage, from when Chris came home from work, and went into the house with the cop and Shannan's best friend, someone suggested that maybe they're at the pool, he just dismissed it. That alone told them that he's guilty. When I can't find my house keys, or wallet, etc., nothing goes unchecked. I look EVERYWHERE. Two or three times. I never give up. I'll even check in places that I know that it would never possibly be. For example, I'll even check the freezer. In fact I'll check the freezer multiple times. even though I know they cannot be in there, I checked anyway. Because at that point, you want to be thorough. You'll check everywhere. The fact that it would have been a reasonable assumption that they walked over to the pool, he dismissed it out right and couldn't bother walking over there to check. I would have gotten excited. Oh yeah, the pool! Let me run over there now and check, and the whole time I'd be thinking: please let them be there please let them be there. I definitely wouldn't be sitting at home staring at my phone. I'd be kicking people's doors down in an attempt to find my missing family. this guy couldn't give a rat's ass about finding his family, because he knew exactly where they were.
To think he had to carry them both up those stairs like pieces of garbage... I could never understand the coldness. This man's actions were terrible and shocking. No excuse. And unbelievably he gets love letters sent yo him in prison. Anyways, I do want to offer some important education in response to the shows closing credits. DHHS Maltreatment report on child mortality by parents gender either by themselves or with another. Mother takes life 70% of the time. Fathers the remaining 30. Statistics Canada study on intimate partner violence self report studies. Men admit to being abused in unreciprocated physical violence 48% vs women at 36. In reciprocal violence numbers basically match. And in the few studies you may find about emotional abuse and that track who responds with physical violence first women are the greater perpetrators by a fairly wide margin. Also females are 3x more likely to grab and attack with a physical object, thereby causing greater bodily harm. Domestic violence is not as much a gendered issue as most people believe. And it is important to admit this so that real working solutions can be found.
Heartbreaking😭😭😭😭😭😭. I can't believe that his mother, the grandmother of those children, is like: s ok. We forgive you, son. No wonder her son is a monster. I dont think Chris regrets that he took away the lives of his wife and two kids, I think he feels sorry for himself.

It's the 21 century, women are empowered. That is not the problem, Chris the lying predator that's the problem. Familicide is so rare because a man who can do what he did is a rare creature. Chris is a bottom feeder. He scoops up women who have been victims who are vulnerable on the rebound or like Shan who was sick. He gains their trust then betrays them.

Story will forever make my stomach turn. It doesnt get much more evil than this monster. And all these women out there who think it's cute to willfully entertain a married man, they are part of the problem. Close your legs to married men. There was also a similar case were the husband killed his 4 boys and his wife because he was having an affair.
Not only has the family and friends suffered, but the firefighters who had to pull out two innocent bodies are probably are haunted by now think of what they saw and did its terrifying. This is why you stay away from relationships and getting married. I dont know why this guy did what he did but Im sure all the stress and anxiety of a failing marriage didnt help any.

I just can't get my head around it. I feel guilty for days if I accidentally hit an animal in the car, let alone killing your entire family and disposing of them like garbage.
